Type of mutation: Opal Spaldings combine the opal color mutation with hybrid spalding traits.
Peacock Coloration: Opal peacocks are darker in coloration than the longer established cameos. The head and neck are a dark brown but have an bluish-green iridescence, giving the bird the opal gemstone effect from which its name is derived. The shoulders are barred with two shades of brown slightly lighter then the rest of the body. The train is dark brown, and the ocelli are composed of shades of opal, black, and copper. Varying amounts of green traits are present, such as a tight crest, yellow facial patch and long legs.
Peahen Coloration: Hens are a light gray in color, which is slightly darker around the neck area. There is no iridescence found on the neck of this bird, unlike the India Blue. Opal spalding hens may have tighter crests, longer legs, and a yellow facial patch.
Do they breed true?: The Opal coloration breeds true. Offspring will show varying amounts of spalding traits.
