The Pied Emerald Spalding combines the beauty of the Java Green with the uniqueness of the pied. Since the UPA stopped recognizing Emerald Spalding as an official variety in 2005, Pied Emerald Spaldings are no longer officially recognized and would just be called Pied Spaldings. |

Type of mutation: Emerald Spalding is a hybrid, and pied is a pattern mutation. The bird still has at least 3/4 green blood. |

Peacock Coloration: Males are extremely similar to greens in their normal coloration. The neck is green and the wings dark. There are also random splotches of white all over the bird. |

Peahen Coloration: Hens vary greatly within this variety. The neck is solid green and iridescent. The chest and wings are varying shades of dark brown and rust. There are patches of white positioned randomly on the bird. |

Do they breed true?: No, Pied Emerald Spaldings will not breed true, for the offspring will have varying degrees of green blood, many of them not enough to qualify the necessary 3/4. The pied factor also will not breed true. 25% of the birds will be white, 50% spalding, and 25% dark pieds, all with varying degrees of green blood, some spaldings, some emerald spaldings. |
